A morning at Mystic Aquarium

We took the girls to Mystic Aquarium in Mystic Connecticut this morning. We have a yearly pass to the Connecticut Science Center, that we love. For the month of March there is a reciprocal that allows you into the aquarium free of charge. It really is a great opportunity for us to take the girls somewhere new.

The girls had a blast, the beluga whale exhibit and the penguins were a big hit. It was a little chilly so spending a lot of time outside viewing them does make it difficult this time of year. There is also a butterfly exhibit that wasn't open because of the weather also. We loved the stingray's and being able to touch them was fun. Of course the sea lion show is always entertaining! You can tell by watching it the trainers put in a lot of hard work with them!
However, this particular aquarium is not one I would visit with my family, if we didn't have the reciprocal option with our Science Center pass. As a family of four it would have cost us $85.82, just to walk through the door, and Stevie being under two would be free, so its even more with a child over the age of two. That is an expensive couple of hours, because that is about as long as it takes to view everything they have. We arrived right when they opened at 9, and struggled to keep the girls entertained until the sea lion show at 11:30. I was also surprised they did a lot of their maintenance and checking the animal tanks, when they opened at 9, instead of before the doors opened. As visitors, we couldn't enter certain areas during this maintenance.

So regardless of my review, the girls had a great morning at the aquarium and that is the most important part! For a family on a budget it is an expensive trip. We still left with a 35$ visit to the gift shop and lunch on the ride home. So adding in the entrance to the aquarium would have cost us well over $100 for three hours.

The girls had a favorite first at the aquarium today!
